Video taken inside a crowded illegal immigrant detention center in South Texas features a frustrated Border Patrol agent fed up with the massive crisis.
The video circulating on social media shows acting executive CBP officer Oscar Escamilla giving a tour of the makeshift tent facility in Donna, Texas, and presenting a large playpen where young unaccompanied migrants are monitored.
“I’m a father. I don’t want to see this,” Escamilla says. “As a Border Patrol, I didn’t sign up for this.”
During a tour of the facility, which was previously prohibiting reporters prior to a recent visit by a congressional committee, Escamilla also said migrants were drawn to the US by its catch-and-release policies.
“There’s a pull factor. They know that we’re releasing them,” he stated. “They know that right now there’s nothing stopping them. We’re not going to deport them back to their country so they keep coming.”
The facility made to hold up to 250 people is currently extremely over capacity with over 4,100 people held there, forcing the Biden administration to secure other facilities throughout the state to accommodate the surge.
