McConaughey says liberals are being cannibalized by ‘illiberals’, declares cancel culture is unconstitutional

AUSTIN, TX – Matthew McConaughey has long since been a voice of reason in the country, one of those celebrities without polarizing opinions yelled through a megaphone – and always straddling the fence between being a liberal and conservative.

He has now taken aim at “cancel culture” in an interview on Good Morning, Britain.

The 51-year-old Oscar winner recently called out liberals who he says “completely illegitimize” conservatives, drive cancel culture in a way that’s “sort of unconstitutional.” Many liberals, The Gentlemen star says, are being “cannibalized” by “illiberals.”

McConaughey explained his “illiberals” comment:

“You need liberals, what I don’t think we need is the illiberals and what I don’t think that some liberals see is that they’re often being cannibalized by the illiberals.

“The extreme left and the extreme right completely illegitimize the other side, the liberal and the conservative side which we need in certain places.

“The two extremes illegitimize those two sides, or they exaggerate that side’s stance into an irrational state that makes no sense – and that’s not fair when either side does that.”

McConaughey also spoke of the decline of freedom of speech, the breakdown of dialogue, and the resulting cancel culture:

“Where the waterline’s going to land on this freedom of speech, and what we allow and what we don’t and where this cancel culture goes, where that waterline lands is a very interesting place that we’re engaged in right now as a society because we haven’t found the right spot.

“I would argue to say we don’t even have true confrontation right now. True confrontation at least gives some validation to the opposing point of view or legitimizes the opposing point of view.

“You’ve got to have confrontation to have unity, I think we can all agree on that, and that’s when a democracy works really well.

“Right now, we don’t have true confrontation because we don’t even give legitimacy to an opposing point of view, we give no validation to it, we make that view persona non grata. In a way, it’s sort of unconstitutional.”

Although McConaughey previously dared Americans to get “aggressively centric,” he noted that to some degree, conflict is a necessary evil.

He added:

“You’ve got to have confrontation to have unity.  That’s when a democracy works really well.”

McConaughey was being interviewed by fellow actor Russell Brand.  He further stated:

“On the far left, there is a lot [of people] on that illiberal left that absolutely condescend, patronize, and are arrogant towards the other 50 percent.

“Many people, I’m sure you saw it, in our industry, when Trump was voted in four years ago, they were in denial that it was actually real. Some of them were in absolute denial.”

From a previous interview about his political beliefs, Matthew McConaughey is obviously non-political, in general, unlike many Hollywood personalities.

In the 2017 during an interview with BBC, the actor was asked whether the actors who had “dumped” on the president should give him a break.

He answered:

“Well, they don’t have a choice now, he’s our President.  It’s very dynamic and as divisive of an inauguration and time that we’ve ever had. At the same time, it’s time for us to embrace and shake hands with this fact and be constructive with him over the next four years.”

While the remarks weren’t a direct pledge of support for Trump, they did suggest that the country needed to come together in the aftermath of his election.

Matthew’s first comments were made in the immediate aftermath of Trump’s election, and were met with both praise and ridicule on social media. A year later, the actor was asked to clarify his initial comments, and whether he had any other views on the president.

He responded:

“What I said, or thought I said is that people were in denial and we have to accept the fact that he’s president.”

When he was asked whether he had his own views on President Trump, he conceded that he did, but said that he would only express them in front of a camera in an unedited form:

“It’s just that I don’t want to become clickbait.  What you say is just turned into a headline that people click on.”

Columbia Sportswear CEO seemingly tells 74 million Trump supporters to ‘take a hike’, go to park to ‘relieve stress’

December 12, 2020

PORTLAND, OR- Dear Columbia Sportswear—go to hell.

Apparently unknown to Columbia Sportswear and their CEO Tim Boyle, over 74 million people voted for President Donald Trump.

We imagine that among that 74 million are a number of people who are members of Columbia’s target market, people who purchase outerwear, along with cold-weather boots, hiking boots and sneakers.

We guess that among those Trump voters are people who ski, hunt, fish and golf.

Yet, Columbia apparently is not interested in those people conducting business with them.

Why else would their CEO post a snarky tweet this past Friday, ostensibly after the Supreme Court put its tail between their collective legs and refused to even hear the case of Texas and numerous other states.

The tweet?

Entitled “Take A Hike,” the message from Boyle was:

“Congratulations to all the candidates who were chosen by voters in November. We’re looking forward to working with the Biden Administration and the new Congress to preserve our national parks and wild spaces for future generations.

“And to those who lost elections, just a friendly reminder that our national parks are great places to relieve stress.”

Of course, Boyle’s tweet was loved far and wide among the brain dead who inhabit Twitter. One comment about Boyle…looks like he’s been an about a three month bender. Maybe he was drunk tweeting, who knows?

With that said, hopefully the brain dead, cellar dwelling Neanderthals who comprise much of Twitter’s user universe can take time out from mommy’s basement go keep Columbia in business.

Something tells us your average Black Lives Matter, Antifa losers aren’t going around sporting Columbia sportswear.

We are not sure in which business universe it makes business sense to burn 74 million possible consumers, but apparently Boyle knows something the rest of the business world does not.

Columbia is just another in another line of companies that feel they need to virtue signal in order to show how hip and cool they are.

And they are likely to find out that just as cancel culture can come the way of conservatives, it can also bounce back the other way.

One interesting factoid about Columbia is that according to the New York Times, 25% of the company’s footwear is manufactured in China.

Well, no wonder they support a Biden administration. Old Joe loves him some China.

Nothing like a little slave labor to manufacture your shoes, huh Mr. Boyle.

According to a page on their website entitled “Columbia Slavery Act Policy,” the company admitted that their “apparel, accessories and equipment are manufactured in 12 countries, with approximately 50% of these products produced in Vietnam and China.”

Further, they say that their footwear was manufactured in three countries, with the majority of those products manufactured in Vietnam and China.

While Columbia denies the use of actual “slave labor” in their manufacturing processes, just like Nike, people in those countries make what amount to slave wages.  This is why their garbage is produced in southeast Asia as opposed to the United States.

So, it’s clear why Boyle favors a Biden administration…after all he and Hunter appear to have a nice, tidy arrangement with the Chinese Communist Party. Such an arrangement is obviously beneficial to an America last company such as Columbia.

The funny thing about all of this is that a Biden administration will be levying more confiscatory taxes on big businesses like Columbia.

In other words, be careful what you ask for Mr. Boyle.

Clearly in an election with a 50/50 split, pissing off half the country is not a good look. Taking a position one way or the other for a business in this political environment simply shows a level of tone deafness that is staggering.

Will this have a negative effect on Columbia’s bottom line? Who knows? But we would imagine investors might not be too happy about Boyle taking such a position. However President Xi is probably pleased.

What is the saying? Sometimes it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt?

Boyle would do well to follow that advice.
