New data is showing a 67% increase in gun sales for September 2020, for a one year period from September 2019 according to theTrace.com, a group that monitors gun data, who posted the new results and charts for each state’s trends mostly showing an increase in gun sales starting in 2008 that never came down.
The Washington Examiner reported on the September Data:
“Even as the availability of guns and ammunition dry up amid a coronavirus and presidential-election fired shopping frenzy, there were more FBI background checks last month than any September ever.
And with the 2,892,115 checks added last month, the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System broke the 22-year record set last year, and there are still three more months left to count. The FBI today said that it had conducted 28,826,499 background checks for gun purchases and other related services through September. For all 12 months of 2000, the FBI conducted 28,369,750.” In other words Americans buy guns when they feel scared. And Kamala Harris maybe scaring people:
Why doesn’t Gabby Giffords stop scaring people?
Joe Biden is scaring people…
The Democrats run on a platform of controling people and their access to self protection, and the number of gun sales goes up.
“Demand for firearms has spiked after events like mass shootings and elections,” according to their website. “But no spike compares to the ongoing surge in 2020, which began with the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March.”
They reported,”Americans bought an estimated 1.92 million guns in September 2020, making it the sixth-highest month on record, according to an analysis of FBI data. This seasonally adjusted figure includes about 1.21 million handguns and 720,000 long guns (rifles and shotguns).”
The Trace’s firearm sales estimates are derived from data from the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), run by the FBI. NICS launched in November 1998; these estimates begin in January 2000.
Background checks, as the FBI notes in its published data, do not correspond one-to-one with sales, but in most cases, background checks for firearms transfers are conducted by licensed firearms dealers at the point of sale. We use these transfer checks to produce estimates of gun sales, taking into account the share of transactions that include multiple guns.
Seasonal adjustments are calculated with the U.S. Census Bureau’s X13-ARIMA-SEATS software, and account for factors such as cyclical changes in demand, the number of days in a month, and the timing of holidays. This adjustment allows meaningful comparisons to be made between months.”
The group’s data shows a steady increase in each state around 2008, around the time Former President Barack Obama was sworn in, showing a pattern that people were buying more guns after 2008 that never came down.
Interestingly in 2007 there was a change in gun laws by the US Supreme Court, as reported by Time, which the Democrats have just never accepted, and that is that the US Supreme Court ruled Americans have the right to protect ourselves:
“District of Columbia v. Heller essentially changed a nearly 70-year precedent set by Miller in 1939. While the Miller ruling focused on the “well regulated militia” portion of the Second Amendment (known as the “collective rights theory” and referring to a state’s right to defend itself), Heller focused on the “individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia.”
Heller challenged the constitutionality of a 32-year-old handgun ban in Washington, D.C., and found, “The handgun ban and the trigger-lock requirement (as applied to self-defense) violate the Second Amendment.”
It did not however nullify other gun control provisions. “The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms,” stated the ruling.”
And the left has been trying to expand what is a “sensitive area” ever since the ruling, as a way of going around the SCOTUS decision.
Did it ever occur to the left that to get people to stop buying gund, they need to stop scaring people?
