Growing Oregon Fire Forces Evacuations

A wildfire that started between Hood River and The Dalles in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge grew quickly Wednesday afternoon, prompting mandatory evacuations.

Gov. Kate Brown announced Wednesday evening that she’d signed an emergency declaration to make more resources available.

About 7 p.m. forestry department spokesperson Christie Shaw estimated the blaze at 50 acres, but by about 8:15 p.m. the forestry department said it had increased to 200 acres.
