Amid political turmoil in Rajasthan, the Supreme Court will today hear a plea over the disqualification of six Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLAs who were elected to the state Assembly on a BSP ticket but later merged with the Congress. The plea was filed by Rajasthan Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Madan Dilawar.
The BJP MLA had moved the Supreme Court after the Rajasthan High Court issued a notice to Assembly Speaker CP Joshi rather than issuing a stay on the merger between BSP MLAs and the Congress government.
In a plea, Madan Dilawar has sought a Supreme Court order to stay the September 2019 order of the Rajasthan Speaker accepting the merger of six BSP MLAs with the Congress.
Challenging the merger, Dilawar also questioned Assembly Speaker CP Joshi’s order dismissing his complaint without allowing him to have his say.
