Doctors in Rome Separate Conjoined Twins

Doctors at the Vatican-owned Bambino Gesu Pediatric Hospital in Rome reported, Tuesday, July 7, they successfully separated conjoined twins with fused skulls.

The hospital said the toddlers are recovering well a month after their third, and final, separation surgery on June 5.

The team behind the surgery worked for nearly two years planning and executing the separation.

The final surgery involved a team of 30 doctors and nurses.

This case of conjoined twins occurs once in every 2 million births. (AP)
