CNN’s Jake Tapper To FEMA Administrator: Inability To Give Exact Number Of Masks “Alarms People”

FEMA Administrator Peter Gaynor joined CNN’s Jake Tapper Sunday on “State of the Union” to discuss the federal response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Tapper asked Gaynor how many surgical masks and medical supplies FEMA has distributed so far:

“It is a dynamic and fluid operation, Gaynor stated. “The president appointed FEMA five days ago to manage federal operations, and since I’ve been here, we’ve been shipping continuously from federal warehouses, and again, connecting, you know, those governors that need supplies to those who have it in the commercial sector.”

“Do you have even a rough number?” Tapper asked.

“I don’t have a rough number. I can tell you that it is happening every day,” Gaynor said.

A concerned Tapper told him: “You understand though, the inability of the federal government to give a number alarms people, right? It makes people concerned there aren’t masks going out the door.”

“I’m not saying that that’s the case, but without a number, that doesn’t fill people with confidence,” Tapper said.
