Store owner charged with battery after video released of attack against reporters

A California man was charged with vandalism and battery a day after police say he was filmed yelling at and attacking reporters who came to his store to speak with him.

Peter Carzis, 76, was filmed on Monday yelling obscenities at a group of journalists who tried to interview him outside Peter’s Men’s Apparel, his store in La Mesa, California.

Police arrested Carzis on Tuesday and said that the videos show a “well-publicized altercation with members of the media.” Investigators said Carzis is accused of “battering multiple reporters and causing irreparable damage to a video camera reported to be worth approximately $7,000.”

“You’re a badass? Show me how bad you are, motherf—er,” Carzis reportedly told one of the cameramen.

The reporters were at his store to interview him about a sexual harassment investigation. The altercation began when members of the media said they saw Carzis push a female reporter and they tried to assist her, according to NBC San Diego.

Police have been investigating Carzis after video emerged on social media appearing to show him putting his hands up a woman’s shirt.
