Chinese students abroad ponder patriotism and empathy

In Hong Kong, what started off as marches against a fugitive bill later morphed into the biggest, most violent movement the city has seen in decades. The protests also sparked conflicts between young people from this special administrative region and the Chinese mainland. And the confrontation has even spread to university campuses overseas, where a large number of mainland and Hong Kong students are studying. What do Chinese mainland students abroad really think about the situation in Hong Kong? CGTN’s host Tian Wei sat down with three of them who are studying abroad. While condemning violence, they also try to understand the deep-seated social problems fueling the protests.
