Second All-Female Spacewalk Wraps ISS Upgrade Amid Helmet Issue

Two NASA astronauts finished upgrades to the International Space Station’s power grid, marking the second all-female spacewalk, Wednesday, January 15.

It was the second pairing of Jessica Meir and Christina Koch outside the station.

The astronauts were hindered in their venture when Koch had a problem with her helmet camera and lights.

Meir tried to fix the helmet, but Mission Control in Houston, Texas, advised the women to remove the camera and light assembly.

The mission was part of an ongoing effort by NASA to replace decades-old nickel-hydrogen batteries on the ISS with more powerful batteries.

Koch is just three weeks away from ending her 11-month space mission, the longest ever by a woman, while Meir has been at the space station since September. (AP)
