Ex-McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook — who was ousted earlier this month for having an affair with an employee — had a romantic relationship with a second woman working for the fast food giant, according to a new report.
Easterbrook, 52, was dating public relations staffer Denise Paleothodoros when he became CEO in 2015, The Wall Street Journal reported. Paleothodoros, 46, was working for Golin, an adviser to the fast food giant, at the time, and worked on the McDonald’s account.
She informed her company of the relationship when Easterbrook became CEO, and she was removed from the account to “avoid any conflict of interest,” Golin told the paper. McDonald’s also signed off on the relationship.
“Steve and I were in a relationship and that ended amicably a while ago,” said Paleothodoros, who is now an executive director at Golin. The pair dated for about two years, the Journal reported, citing sources.
The dad-of-three was separated from his wife when he joined McDonald’s. The couple has since divorced.
Easterbrook’s firing was revealed earlier this month after McDonald’s deemed he violated company policy by having a consensual affair with a female employee. He admitted to the misconduct in an apology email to staff.
The McDonald’s board hired a New York City law firm to conduct an external investigation into the relationship three weeks ago, according to The Journal.
Easterbrook agreed to a settlement Oct. 31 and was fired the next day, the paper reported.
