China offers to buy some U.S. agricultural exports if U.S. relaxes restrictions: report

China trade negotiators last week offered to buy a small amount of U.S. farm goods, but that offer could hinge on U.S. concessions, Politico reported on Sunday, citing sources. The phone conversation between involving Chinese Vice Premier Liu He, U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin last Wednesday. However, those same sources said the U.S may need to lighten export restraints on Chinese tech giant Huawei and hold off on hiking tariffs on $250 billion in goods, planned for Oct. 1. U.S. President Donald Trump has been pressing for China to boost buying of corn and soybeans.
