Stocks open higher as investors put aside trade-war fears

Stocks opened higher Friday, as investors appeared to be cheered by signs U.S. and China negotiators will continue talks in an effort to end an escalating trade war. The Dow Jones Industrial Average

rose 142 points, or 0.5%, to 26,504, while the S&P 500

SPX, +0.33%

was up 16 points, or 0.5%, at 2,940. The Nasdaq Composite

COMP, +0.22%

advanced 44 points, or 0.6%, to 8,018. Shares of Dell Technologies Inc.

DELL, +11.91%

were up more than 9%, while shares of Campbell Soup Co.

CPB, +6.14%

advanced 7% after both companies delivered upbeat earnings results.
