Dollar Tree shares climb 6.9% premarket after topping Q2 sales estimates

rose 6.9% in premarket trade Thursday, after the discount retailer beat sales estimates for the second quarter. Chesapeake, Va.-based Dollar Tree said it had net income of $190.3 million, or 76 cents a share, in the quarter to Aug. 3, down from $273.9 million, or $1.15 a share, in the year-earlier period. Sales rose to $5.74 billion from $5.53 billion. The FactSet consensus was for EPS of 83 cents and sales of $5.72 billion. Same-store sales rose 2.4%, topping the 1.9% FactSet consensus. The company said it now expects third-quarter sales of $5.66 billion to $5.77 billion, compared with a FactSet consensus of $5.74 billion. It expects EPS to range from $1.07 to $1.16, compared with a FactSet consensus of $1.15. For the full year, it expects sales of $23.57 billion to $23.79 billion, compared with a FactSet consensus of $23.68 billion. It expects full-year EPS of $4.90 to $5.11, below the FactSet consensus of $5.14. Shares have gained 10.3% in 2019, while the S&P 500
