Dorian, the major storm barreling west of St. Thomas and headed toward Puerto Rico, has strengthened and become a hurricane, the National Hurricane Center said Wednesday. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 75 miles an hour and is located close to St. Thomas, the agency said in its latest advisory. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Vieques and Culebra, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands, while a Hurricane Watch is in effect for Puerto Rico. “Dorian is forecast to continue strengthening during the next few days over the Atlantic waters,” said the NHC.
