Most Say It’s Too Hard to Fire Government Workers

President Trump last week signed a series of executive orders that, among other things, makes it easier to fire unionized federal workers. That’s something most Americans agree is too difficult to do.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 58% of American Adults think it’s too hard to get rid of poorly performing government employees. Just nine percent (9%) think it’s too easy, while 21% think the level of difficulty is about right. Twelve percent (12%) are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 American Adults was conducted on May 28-29, 2018 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
